What Is the VIX?

The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) measures the market's expectation of 30-day volatility in the S&P 500. Often called the "fear index," it rises when investors are fearful and falls during complacency.

Trading Tip: VIX above 30 often signals market stress and potential reversals. Below 15 suggests a risk-on environment favorable for equities.
