- Setting Up The Chart:
Use a daily timeframe for a clearer view of trends.
Plot Gold (XAU/USD) prices.
Overlay MACD (5,25,5) and MACD (12,26,9).
2. Entry and Exit Rules:
a) MACD (5,25,5) Rules:
Buy Signal: When the MACD line crosses above the signal line.
Sell Signal: When the MACD line crosses below the signal line.
b) MACD (12,26,9) Rules:
Buy Signal: When the MACD line crosses above the signal line and is below zero.
Sell Signal: When the MACD line crosses below the signal line and is above zero.
3. Combined Strategy:
a Buy:
Wait for the MACD (5,25,5) to produce a buy signal.
Confirm this with the MACD (12,26,9). If it is also giving a buy signal or if the MACD line is nearing a cross above the signal line and is below zero, then enter the trade.
b Sell:
Wait for the MACD (5,25,5) to produce a sell signal.
Confirm this with the MACD (12,26,9). If it is also giving a sell signal or if the MACD line is nearing a cross below the signal line and is above zero, then exit the trade.
4. Risk Management:
Always set a stop-loss. You can place it below the recent low for buy trades and above the recent high for sell trades.
Adjust your position size to ensure you’re risking no more than 1-2% of your trading capital on a single trade.
5. Important Notes:
Like all trading strategies, this strategy doesn’t guarantee success. The combination of MACD settings provides a way to validate signals, but false signals can still occur.
The difference between the two MACD settings is the sensitivity. The (5,25,5) setting will be more sensitive to price changes and produce more signals, while the (12,26,9) setting will be less sensitive but may produce more reliable signals.
Always back-test any strategy on historical data before applying it to live trades.
This strategy combines the sensitivity of a short-term MACD setting with the reliability of a longer-term setting, which can provide more assurance before making a trading decision. However, always remember to consider other technical and fundamental factors in the market when making a trade decision.
